trouble with computer in 98 SVT
just got my Superchip in the mail today, and i'm having quite a bit of trouble removing the computer.
the directions supplied state that the computer should slide out quite easily after i remove the white bracket right there on the front; this does not seem to be the case.
i've given it quite a tug, and it's not pulling off. i've noticed the clips on the black plastic bracket really do nothing, except for the ones on the underside.
despite my efforts, it just doesn't seem to come off.
so what i tried then was to simply clean the laquer off the terminals without removing the computer, which i did. i used a small pen for leverage on the small side, and had plenty on the open side, and i did a hell of a job cleaning it.
terminal was nice and clean, didn't use too much force, so everything was going ok.
until i put the chip on.
needed a spacer between it and the computer.
not a problem, spacer provided.
put everything back in place, start the car...
not kicking.
turns over plenty. no kick.
the superchips directions also state this might be a problem with some 98+ computers, as the dealers had modified them, and i would need to send them the computer and chip back, they will perform a simple procedure, and then send them back to me, which i'm planning on doing.
however, i am still left with the problem of getting that damn computer off.
if anyone has done this or knows of a page that provides pictorial directions, it would be most appreciated.
i've spent LOTS of time over the internet looking for something, and have come up blank.
thanks.
