Read V Reg Mondeo Head gasket Dilema

Hello to all and thanks for trying to help.

I have a 2000 (V Reg) 2.0L 16v Ford Mondeo Ghia, and i have had some problems like loss of coolant and no heating once, but i have found water leaking from the engine underneath but cannot find where the leak is, so my wife took the car to a garage and after roughly an hour of pondering told her the head gaskets has gone and to repair it would cost around £800.00
The car has been leaking for around 6 months when it was found, but the car drives perfectly and we check the water level weekly and hve no other problems with the car can you Help?
Have you ever had any experience with a head gasket problem and what was the solution?
Does anyone no what symptoms the car may have?

First check would be the steel coolant hose that runs around the bottom and front of the engine, they have a tendency to corrode through.

I agree it's almost certain to be the metal coolant pipe that runs around the front lower part of the engine. Can be bought for around £40.00, but you need to be able to get under the car to fit it. Not a big job though..... Jim

Hi Jim and thank you.

Do you know what symptoms to look out for if it was the head gasket going or indeed gone

Craig

Re: V Reg Mondeo Head gasket Dilema

Hi Craig, usual symptoms for head gasket are, water hoses pressurising, (going very hard with engine running ) bubbling in the header tank on startup becoming more agitated the longer the engine is left to run, loss of water and overheating of course, and possible signs of water in the oil or oil in the water. Even so £800.00 is a total rip off for a replacement head gasket, believe me......Hope this helps..... Jim
