Not sure how far finances will stretch, so I was wondering how effective an Extreme tune is on a standard XR8, and whether there are mods that are necessary (rather than just desirable) in order to achieve the greatest benefit from the tune. For example, if a tune gained, say, 15kw, would other mods (like exhaust/cai etc..) allow more fine tuning so as to gain 20kw (over and above the increased power of the other mods)....or will the gain still be 15kw + of course the gain achieved by the other mods?
Also, assuming that headers, exhaust & CAI are the usual mods that would work well with the tune, if finances didn't allow for all these mods which would be considered the more important?
And finally, assuming that headers and a cat back exhaust would individually add horsepower and perhaps enhance the tune, if finances allowed only one or the other which would be considered more important?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Very Good Questions there mate and i hope the answers help you in your choice.
Firstly if it was being done to a budget (Like most of us have to) the most essential mods i would consider would be as follows, Cold air intake and BMC filter, Helix, Hiflow Cats and of course Xtreme Tune.
Now if the car was an auto and there was no fear of the dreaded clutch problem then under drives would have to be on that list aswell.
But again if budget didnt permit those mods then Cold air and edit would net some nice gains specially in the part throttle response and drivability areas.
Best thing with the edit is once we have your car on record, if you decide to add mods later we can always work out a discount rate for retunes as you add mods if they affect they way the car performs.
Xtreme offers a Xtreme Package that actually entitles you to 3 overal custom tunes in your one price offering you a large discount in the process.
Hope that help .

How restrictive are the standard cats? how much could one expect to gain with just high flow cats? 3-5 rwkw?

Thanks for that Simon - I can now plan accordingly (once I've sold the ute).

Hi Simon,
What sort of gains would you expect to see out of the XR8(manual) with these mods(ball Park), inc Custom tune?
Thanks mate
