Vehicle modifications.

Well i figure its about time we shed some truths on some aspects of what mods seem to affect cars and what some of the out comes can be that can cause safety issues and also possible engine drama's.

Firstly i want ppl to ask questions they have worries about and ill answer them best to my knowledge.

Now i have decided that anyone who wants to lift there power to the level around what my GT-P is doing for a Boss engine wont be getting it done through me unless unless they are prepared to take certain steps to insure there saftey and there cars reliability. Those 2 steps are Flywheel and oil pump replacement.

These 2 components im talking about i dont even make and whilst i can supply them so can many others and i dont care who you purchase them off aslong as you are aware that these parts can cause damage.(So this isnt for me to make money) bottom line

Firstly, We have all talked about the clutches in our Boss powered cars and with the arrival of some very good units on the scene we are placing even harsher amounts of pressure on certain areas. The main concern i have in this area is the Flywheel. There have been a few incodents where these have broken.. Now to me its cheap insurance to just change it and know its now safe. Now before we start with the things of we shouldnt need to change these things what you and everyone else has to realise is that FPV and Ford test these cars to a level, i think when we push the level past where it was set by them we have to take some responsibility for what we do to our cars.

I have talked with my dealer and others regarding warranties and i can tell you most of these guys are good guys. They will bend over backwards to help, now if a car has broken things due to a mod on the car that can be directly linked to the mod then i guess you could say your in trouble, If your mod has no refelction on what has happened then you will be pretty safe.

Secondly
I recommend Oil pump replacement

I Have fitted a Billet gear set to my engine for my own piece of mind to know this failure cant happen, now if my engine failed because of this Billet component i wouldnt expect a warranty claim, i would wear it. Its cheap security as these pieces standard are only cintered metal and not what i would call a durable piece for any performance engine.

I will update this section and check it daily so that ppl are made aware of what they are doing could be causing issues.

Please dont tun this thread into a mud fest, I want you guys to be aware of problems that may turn against you with the power levels we are starting to achieve with these asome pieces of equiptment.

I also think that if your prepared to drive your cars hard you need to expect to do servicing alot more often, CHanging oil before the recommended time when you are pushing the car to its boundaries is a must.

Re: Vehicle modifications.

It is always good to be on the safer side of things when it comes to your car and modifying it. Yes you can get away with not doing it, but it can come back to bite you in the ass. You have put up some sound advice there GTP330

It would really depend on what mods you have and what mods you are looking at doing... its cheap insurance in my book to remove something that could break under stress

Ok here's my question, i ultimately want anywhere between 240 to 250 GENIUNE rwkw's, is the stock auto up to the task with usuall every day driving + the odd thrashing?
Because with that power figure i want reliable along side with it.

Cheers
Jim

I believe the auto will be fine if you dont miss treat the car and like isaid, service it more regular then normal, ie oil change the trans ect beofre it shows signs of oil burning.

Re: Vehicle modifications.

hi, i have a question, yesterday my partner was driving our ute and it made nioses, she stopped and checked the car and it turned out that the front tyre was decintergrating, she took it to the tyre shop, and both front tyres were worn thru the steel belting on the inside egde.the car has done 14000 kms, but ford replaced the steering rack 4000kms ago after a bearing in it failed, they never mention that it had excesive tyre wear, now the problem i have is the tyre shop could not adjust the camber to correct the problem, the reason is because the herrod headers cover the camber adjustment bolts!(it's easier to lift the engine out to unbolt the headers!)now my question is should i complain to ford or is it my responsibility for modifing it? and has anyone else had a problem like this?

Hi farmer,
Well, i would pose the question to Ford, when they replaced the rack was there anyway in doing so it has messed up your alignment... And if so why wasnt it checked, Secondly what headers are you using that doesnt allow adjustment to the camber!!! Are the the new headers from herrod or the old ones???

Re: Vehicle modifications.

Hi Simon,

On the subject of flywheels, I notice that a few guys have fitted a Mal Woods clutch with a lightened flywheel. I am considering this as a mod for my GTP. What are your thoughts on the lightened flywheel, is this the sort of change you are suggesting and is there any feedback on the one supplied by Mal Woods?

Cheers

Hey Jim, i use the Mal woods set up in my GTP and i just replace the standard flywheel with his billet one, the weights are very similar and he makes sure they are all balanced correctly for our engines.

I keep these in stock
