I was wondering, is it true that if you put a hi flow cat on a standard XR6T that the the factory set ECU cannot operate and goes into limp mode?
I am trying to work out how far its possible to go with mods on an XR6T before the factory setting in the CAPA flash tuner cannot operate? I believe that the factory setting cannot manage bigger injectors or a high flow cat on the standard setting?
From what i can gather, the only mods that can be done that will still operate sucessfully on the standard Factory set ECU would be-
Cold Air intake, High flow air filter, Removing centre muffler (or adding another exhaust system), Re Gapping the spark plugs.
Thanks for sharing your excellent knowledge base and keep up the amazing work! Xtreme is definately stamping a name in its own league with Ford Tuning.

Hey mate, thanks for your kind words, its reassuring
As for your question its a tuff one. We have seen so many variations in these cars that anything is possible. But mostly, i would say that i cant see how a cat would put a car into limp mode, when a car goes into limp mode its usually because of major issues.
In part what happenes when you change the way a car is designed by the manufacturer is you can put it outside what the pcm sees as normal operating conditions and it can cause problems, we are talking about pretty sophisticated pieces of gear the PCM can even detect if the car is taking to long to warm upto operating temps and think the thermostat is faulty!.
From standard the cars are set to run a lean fuel curve at part throttle and cruise areas for economy and emisions. At WOT the tend to be on the rich side, if you add hiflow cats and air intakes these can start to lean the engines out and that inturn starts to increase the power. Lean it out to much and the PCM will detect it and start changing timings ect to counteract it, Luckily with the edit we now have access to these areas and can correct it where it needs it making the cars reliable, safe in there settings and very driveable.
Becareful of what "Hiflow" cats you purchase aswell, i was quite shocked when i recenlty flowed some big name brand cats with very dissapointing results. Im holding back on releasing the results till ive dynoed the ones im interested in and then again i will just advise my fidnings so you guys can benifit and see results for yourself.
As for removing the centre muffler....There are alot of full systems out there avaliable for these cars that really arent as great as we are led to believe. In all of the systems ive seen the cats are the restriction and unless you are making a system purly for sound not performance alot of them wont really be benificial.
I would recommend always doing the cat and dump pipe on a turbo car before looking at the rest of the zorst.
It will be good for you guys with the turbo cars to follow closely at whats going on with the Stock Typhoon ive started on, so far to date its gone 279 rwkw's with stock everything accept the injectors and edit. Now before doing anything esle that car will have dump pipe and cat done, nothing else and hit the dyno again, then followed by the rest of the zorst.
Keep driving and enjoing your ride mate

Hope i didnt babble to much and ive given you something to go on.
Cheers
