2010 Lincoln MKZ

I am purchasing a 2010 Lincoln MKZ with 103A package, Remote start, Floor Mats along with the maintenance, tire, and 7/100 extended warranties in the next few weeks. I have a few questions

1.) Will I get better performance running 93-95 Octane over 87 Regular?
2.) Any quirks with the MKZ?
3.) Any known issues with the car?

Anything I should know about the car?

Don't run a higher octane than what is recommended in the owners manual. FOr two reasons: First, the engine will compensate as it's electronically controlled, which leads to the second reason; it's a waste of money to run a fuel that isn't required.

You can check for quirks online at the NHTSA website. Best thing to do is to check previous model years to see if they had any problems, recalls or TSB's.

Other than that, congrats on the purchase!

Re: 2010 Lincoln MKZ

I ordered in Lincoln MKZ today. I added the Sport Appearance package to 103A. I have all the maintenance plans, protection plans, and extended warranties. Bank of America gave me 4.86% for 72 months.

My Buick LuCerne gained 30HP with higher octane.

That's not a bad interest rate for 72 months! Seems a bit long in the tooth for me though, I couldn't imagine still paying for a vehicle before my first set of tires wore out. Still, the Lucerne is a nice ride. I test drove a 3.8L base CX model and it seemed to be a rather pleasing highway cruiser. Now the base is the 3.9L V6. In Canada, it's an extra $12K for the V8...not a good deal even with today's market.

Re: 2010 Lincoln MKZ

My 2006 Buick LuCerne was the most disappointing Buick I ever had

1979 Buick Le Sabre
1983 Buick Regal
1997 Saturn
2000 Saturn
2003 Regal GS (turbo charger) My favorite

2006 LuCerne CXL V8
1.) no take off power from 0-20 MPH
2.) rear end slides
3.) brakes suck, replaced the fronts ($429) @ 26K, common problem
4.) door handle came off last winter
5.) window guards failed and window fell out of the track
6.) A/C drains plugged and flooded passenger side
7.) wore a hole in floor mats ($104) because they did not fit correctly, common problem
8.) rear bulbs required metric tools, rest of car are american
9.) rear bumper has to be fixed due to parking lot bumps from other cars

It was more expensive for maintenance than my Regal GS, and two Saturns combined.

2006 was a bad year for GM. I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 GT and it's had it's share of problems already, with LOW miles!

- the rear seat is wearing out on the one side, and it's rarely used, the stitches are coming out
- steering has become VERY loose over the last month
- engine light has been on twice for emission components (last 6 months)
- screws holding down the speakers under the dash weren't tight when I picked up the car, it sounded like rocks in a tin can after a few days

The dealer did fix all the quibbles so far except for the steering as they can find nothing wrong with it. I pointed out that I can turn the wheel a good two inches either left or right now, and there is NO change in the direction of the car. When it was new, any steering movement was instant. I'm not impressed with the car and told the service manager at the dealer I bought it from that I thought it was sad, where I'd rather take my 9 year old Dodge down to Florida (2850miles round trip) rather than my G6.

The real kicker is that the dealer told me that the screws holding down the speakers in the dash came loose from the guys at Future Shop who had installed a 12 disc CD changer in the TRUNK, lol.

Re: 2010 Lincoln MKZ

I learned one thing. I only have the dealership fix and install in my cars. They do everything so its their fault, when something goes wrong. You should have had them fix it immediately. I will be scrutinizing everything on the MKZ.

If the new 12 CD changer amp is not balanced to the radio properly, you can add speaker vibration and cause the screws to loosen. I am an Electrical Engineer. I help my friend a sound engineer design and install custom speakers.

The 60 month rate was 4.52 vs 72 months @ 4.7. I will probably pay it off closer to 60 months.

The speaker problem had started before I had the changer installed, but didn't think much of it. GM had a guy come over, as they outsource their stereo problems under warranty, and on the invoice under comments, this guy stated "Door speakers working fine" yet toward the top of the work order the service clerk wrote "rattling speakers around dash area". I showed the clerk that it was the dashboard speakers from moving the balance/fade around. I don't play it loud as the wife is almost always with me. It took TWO visits to the dealer not to mention that they had the car for three days, before it came back to me in working order.

When I took it in shortly after the speaker problem, the engine light came on, so I brought the car back into the GM service dept and they scanned it. I needed a new O2 sensor. They accused me of running improper fuel in the vehicle and wanted me to pay for it, even though the emissions warranty is good for another 40K. As I keep all receipts in the car, I pulled out my fuel receipts, and to their dissatisfaction they agreed that unleaded regular was the proper fuel! Two weeks later, the dash light came on again and I wheeled it back in for a scan. It turned out that the service center didn't install the replaced sensor tight enough, as the wires were keeping it from turning anymore and falling out of the pipe!

As the dealer has proven its worth, the G6 is still under the comprehensive warranty. I pointed out the stitches coming out along the side of the rear seat, and that it's rarely used, mostly by a friend of mine who's on the small side in both weight and height. The service clerk paused, and asked if I own any pets and keep them back there LOL. I said no, I have no pets. Now I'm waiting to hear what they're going to do with the back seat as its starting to become more noticeable. I'd like them to replace it, but I don't want to get a seat of the same poor/low quality. The fronts are holding up fine! I can't really say the seat problem is directly related to GM, as I'm sure the seats are produced elsewhere and shipped to the factory for the install.

Currently, they don't have a fix for the tons of play in the steering, but I talked to another owner who had a similar problem with a 2007 GTP.

Re: 2010 Lincoln MKZ

I only use Shell premium in my LuCerne. It was recommended. I put in 12 gallons of Mobil Premium in 3 years. The rest of Shell Premium. I usually keep the receipts for a month out. Also, many independent stations don't always put in the correct gas. A station by my house put 84 octane in the Premium 95 tanks. He got caught by the state and shut down.

Have them replace the seat instead of fixing it. Sewing it will look like crap.

They can't find 2" of play in steering. Have you had a 4 wheel alignment and tire rotation? I have it done every year. I would tell them to find it. It is dangerous having that much play.

GM sold you the car and bought the parts. GM is responsible for it.

I will go over the Lincoln MKZ when it arrives. Maintenance is fully covered on the car.

Due to the GM changes, the other local dealer here moved an hour out of town. I'm thinking of taking the car there for any future issues. My current GM dealer offers nothing but excuses and they point the finger at me before checking into the problem more closely.

The dealer called here a short while ago, they're going to replace the steering box to see if that fixes the problem! Better than a 'wait and see...' that I normally get. Shocking! The downside; they want the car for two days. The plus side is that I'll get a MINIVAN as a loaner, lol, lucky me. Maybe I'll top it off with diesel before I drop it off....

I own and operate three service stations in the area. I've forgotten more about fuel than what most folks will ever know.... A man phoned me at the office the other day with a bad broken english accent, and said that I had water in my fuel, because he bought some fuel in his gas can, and water was FLOATING in it the following afternoon. Uh huh.
