I have a problem with third gear only. trans shifts in all the gear but third. what could be wrong?

Possible valve body problem, or contaminants in the fluid restricting fluid passage through the valve body. If the problem is intolerable and gets worse, you might be best off to get a transmission flush done, where all the fluid is evacuated and fresh fluid is installed. Worst case is that the transmission fails and a new unit is required. Best case, is that the flush dislodges the particles and restores the transmission to working order. I'd put it at 50/50. Hopefully someone more involved with Ford Transmissions will chime in.

What's wrong? It's an MTX. That's the first problem.

How many miles are on it? Does it crunch going into 3rd, or does it not want to go into 3rd at all? I plan on running some Redline MTL in mine soon to free things up a bit.
