confused Question about the front seats of my 2007 Fusion

First a little back ground. It is the 07 Fusion SE (I-4) with an appearance package (black leather seats with red stitching).

The problem: I noticed today, while cleaning, that the left side of the driver seat (the outside part, directly below the thigh), and the right side of the passanger seat (also outter part of the seat , directly below the thigh) is cracking.

When you sit in the seat, the pressure exterted down --from my butt-- makes that part of the seat wrinkle...and on that wrinkle is where the cracks have developed.

Now the damage is done, I fear I will have to fix it and lord knows how I will prevent future damage from resulting-- since anybody's butt makes that part of the leather wrinkle.

I guess my question is: Has anybody else had this problem? (I have never had leather seats before). And I am supposing that having this fall under 'warranty' work is a snow flakes chance in hell. (Although on a two year old vehicle, you would think it would be).

Just looking for thoughts out there. Thanks in advance.

If you use your car allot, the leather seats will allot of times develop cracks. Really depends on the type of leather. Some older cars had a more plush, soft leather. Cars these days have tighter, more rough leather, so it has less give, and more likely to split or crack with use.

Re: Question about the front seats of my 2007 Fusion

As tbird100636 said it probably is just the kind of leather they're using now, but it wouldn't hurt to ask the dealer to check with their factory rep. since it's in the same location. There's a"chance" that they had a batch of bad leather.
