Two motors and one tranny

Ford is testing me again. Back in 93 Ford tested me with my Ranger. Big company with no care for the customer. then in 2000 they tested me with the lightning. then in 06 with a F350 diesel and now in 07 with my fusion.
Two motors, one ever 10,000 miles. A tranny to boot the last time. it was all warrentied except for the clutch it also needed. Up-sale I would have to guess.

I need to quit buying Fords. My 95 Mitsubishi Galant is still going with over 250,000 mile on the same timming belt and clutch and that drags my two place snowmobile trailer in the winter.

So this is my fair well to Ford I am done. I can't take it any longer. :chainsaw:

It's back in the shop. Looks like a axle seal let go and the cat converter is now got a rattle inside it! Miss fifth gear once in a while for some reason. I forgt to list the two front bearings have been replaced previous to the two motors. You should consider looking at Toyotas or Hondas I wish I would have!

250,000 miles on a timing belt? BS. 250K miles on a clutch? More BS. Its hard for me to believe you have all these vehicle problems with Ford, bet have no problems with a Galant, of all cars. Lets face it, they are not reliable or known for their longevity.

I kid you not! Mitsubishi was really trying to make a comeback in 94 and 95. I bought a Mirage in 99 and it was nothing like the 95 Galant. I traded that in on a Lightning in 2000.

Ford makes some need shit! (lightning, Cobra, F350 Amarillo ) And they like to give credit to sell their stuff. But honestly you would be better in a Toyota or Honda.

You have to love how the service loves to point fingers. I took the Fusion in to a local dealer where I didn’t buy the car. They put a motor mount in and wheel bearings. Then when the motor started to rattle the shop where I bought the car pointed their fingers at the other shop.

Seems the car got hail damage while in for the axle seal. I am so sick of this car!

Sorry, not buying your story. None of it.

I'll back him up on his statement. My best friend has owned a Precis since high school and he still has the dern thing. We graduated in 95 and even though he has a new vehicle, he still has that old Mitsu on the road. Since I do all his maintenance, I know what's been in and out of that car. He has over 230K on it and it still has the same 5 speed tranny, clutch, timing chain and all. All I've ever had to do is change the plugs n wires and do his oil changes. Basic General maintenance you know... can't say all that for his new car though.

Just a short update. My daughter is driving the car now and she has had a small issue. The battery went bad and it took the radio out. Ford put a new battery in the car and new radio and now when she turns the key to start it it takes a second for the starter to start spinning the motor over. I guess we need another trip to service.

Heavy foot indeed. Poor regular maintenance comes to mind as well. If your like me I tend to baby not only my older cars, but my newer cars as well. New cars can cruise along the interstates so good you'd never know they're moving until you see the lights flashing in the mirror! Older cars...you don't want to take on the interstate because of the excessive noise etc. The more you 'gun' it the faster components wear. There is a break in period that is set by each manufacturer so that the pistons can seat properly in the cylinders.

The only way a clutch would last indefinitely is if you double clutched and rev matched within 100rpm. I've driven 5,6,7,9,13,18 speed transmissions in cars and transports and can tell you that regular fluid changes, keeping the free-play in check and making sure the wife doesn't go near it, are all key to ensure a long transmission life.

Also, I tow and own several trailers and never would I tow 1500-2000lbs with a car. Cars aren't meant to tow even though they are rated to do so occasionally, and at most 1000lbs with a V6 and mid-size frame. I towed once with my Taurus and not to say it was a mistake as I did get the job done, but the total weight was 900lbs and the car felt burdened by it; more so than if I had loaded the car with passengers and luggage. The dynamics of the car change too much than if I was towing with a truck - a vehicle in which its sole purpose is to do work.

It's just a shame that Mitsu is borrowing parts from the Chrysler bin...the new lancer is nice, the galant is aging gracefully, but part sharing just doesn't cut it in my books.

I had an Explorer and a Fusion. I believe you know the story behind these cars better than I do. I don't think I will go back to those cars again until Ford promises to fix its problems.
What do you guys think why Ford is a big company but the quality?
Do you think Ford has the problems with the quality because the union?
I think Ford needs to improve in many areas; its quality, from assembly line to the quality controls. The dealers to the customer service.
There are many Ford dealers in my areas, the sale men don't even know anything about car. They don't even know how to sale a Ford either.
Have a great day,
Tony

My Fusion is a pile. When Ford refused to replace the clutch that got saturated with fluid and debris from the flywheel failing and ventilating the trans, I lost all hope in Ford. Usually, it's the Ford dealers that turn off the import buyers. This time, it was Ford itself and the Ford warranty person that denied the claim. The dealer's tech, and also his service manager both told me that they do not recommend putting the old clutch back into the car. I was never allowed to talk to the person in question, not through the dealer, or though the Ford hotline. Everyone's canned response was "It's a wearable item". That I agree with, but on an 18k mile clutch, it is very far from worn out. I would have even accepted prorating the thing.

Ford needs to wake the hell up and take care of it's current market share. Once this horrifically depreciating pile is close to not being upside-down, it gets replaced by anything other than a Ford.

What was once a 3-Ford garage is now filled with just one.
