V70 Shift-Lock Override? None?

My key won't turn in the ignition of my 2003 V70. Tried several
sets--same problem.

Called Volvo Roadside Assistance, told them that towing it will be
tricky b/c it's parked in my garage. They said let the tow truck driver
worry about it. Sure enough, he comes out and says he can't tow it on
his flat-bed because he can't get it out of the garage. Obviously.

Where is the shift-lock override on this car? Owner manual says nothing
about it and my service advisor said there isn't one. Can that be?

I consider this poor design, if so. My friends S60 fuel door release
stopped working and I told her "Oh, I'll show you the manual cable pull
for it--something similar happened on my 850." Well, apparently there
is no manual cable release--if the door stops working you're out of
luck unless there's someone handy who can fix it.

Have you tried pulling the steering wheel to either side while trying to
turn the ignition key.
I know this sounds obvious to do, but not so many months ago another user of
this group had overlooked exactly that.

This has been reported at least twice in the five-odd years that I have been
reading this group. I also know someone who called AAA because the steering
lock was engaged, and didn't know how to disengage it.

Thanks. Yeah, I tried that at the suggestion of the dealer. Just got
back from the dealership and feel somewhat vindicated because after
fiddling with it for 5 minutes my service advisor said "Yep, it's
broken."

I'll post back once they tell me what the issue is.

How did you get it to the dealer? Put otherwise, how do you override
the shift-lock in a 2003 V70?

Unlock the tilt wheel handle this causes the shift lock cable to bind
not allowing you to unlock wheel

Is for the New York City Firemen who lost their lives on September 11,2001.
The official count is 343, but there was also a volunteer who lost his life
aiding in the initial rescue efforts. And I will never forget them as
long as I live,
nor should any American.
