Hello,

I know its not a landy but while lurking here for the last few months
this group has proven to be a reliable source of information. Good work
guys!

A friend of mine has a Mazda 121 with the left front brake stuck. This
shouldn't be too hard to repair but... I can't get the wheel off.
Apparently the brake got very hot and something glued the wheel to the
axleplate. The wheelnuts come off easilly but the wheel just stays in
place, even with the full weight of the car on it!
Has someone seen this before? I am tempted to just whack it with a
5-pounder but I'm afraid to damage the flimsy wheel. Any advice would be
greatly appreciated.

I have removed stubborn wheels by putting the nuts back on so there is
no "NO" wobble dropping it back on its wheels and moving the vehicle
just a little bit back and forth.

What do you mean by flimsy? already cracked alloy? If not ...

Cushion the blow with a lump of 4x4[1] timber if you decide to explore
this technique.

[1] pun intended - sorry <g>. almost any large lump of timber should
provde the necessary load spreading and shock absorbtion.

Yeah, nuts back on a bit loose and do a few firgure-of-eights. And when
you gat it off, make sure there's some copperslip on the mating
surfaces so it asnt too hard next time.

This will certainly do the trick if not... your friends fooled you with
Super Glue ;-)

Not necessarily from the heat. Alloy wheels often corrode enough to seize
onto the axle stub. I've seen this on a few vehicles including my
Discovery.
As others have said, loosening the wheel nuts and doing a few figure eights
should break it free.
