Well, you'd need to take the head off and have the lightest possible skim
(just to clean it up really) - something around £30 to £50 depending
on your local place. You'll need:
a top end set
STC1172 Top End Set - 200Tdi - Discovery I/Defender/RRC
£22.32 inc VAT (Britpart)
£24.67 inc VAT (Elring)
and a head gasket:
ERR5261 200/300 Tdi Cylinder Head Gasket (1-Hole) 1.3mm
ERR5262 200/300 Tdi Cylinder Head Gasket (2-Hole) 1.4mm
ERR5263 200/300 Tdi Cylinder Head Gasket (3-Hole) 1.5mm
all £14.09 inc VAT (Elring - we don't do cheapies on those)
It would be worth checking the valve guides for play to
be on the safe side (though I'd expect they'd be ok).
Changing them can get pricey as the new ones need reaming.
You'll also need to re-seat the valves - this can be done while
getting the head skimmed or you can do it manually
A new air filter!
Wash out the cyclone filter and hoses, and clean out the intercooler
which will most likely be full of oil.
The head bolts can be re-used six times (including fitting at the
factory) - whether you want to fit new ones is up to you really.
DA2006 Head Bolt Set - 200 Tdi £35.92 inc VAT.
That's about it.
I'd estimate a labour bill of £100-150 for a garage to do the work,
though I'd stress thats only going by labour rates round here......
and depending on how long they have to spend finding the valve
stem caps ;-)
The good news is that, if the nead is tightened down correctly, you'll
most likely never have to do it again.
