Clutch slave cylinder questions (4.0 petrol/R380)

Hi All,

I finally got my slave cylinder in the mail today. I rushed home to
install it; it was a little different than the one that was on there (I
suspect it was not correct). I bolted it up and it fits just fine.

I went to attach the hydraulic line and noticed that the compression
fitting was much smaller than the hole. The threads are worn, so I'm
hoping that this little bit of pipe is wrong and can be replaced
easily.

Some questions:

1) What's the difference between a FTC5072 and a FTC5071 slave? I've
ordered a FTC5072 and think it's correct.

2) Are these compression fittings of different sizes from vehicle to
vehicle and application to application? Or is mine just worn out? I'm
trying to get a part number for this bit, but not having much luck --
most diagrams don't show it...

Thanks!

FTC5072 is for R380 boxes, FTC5071 is for V8 LT77.

As far as I know the fittings are the same but the pipes are different

NRC9595 Clutch Pipe Slave Cylinder 90/110 4 Cyl 8.34 inc VAT
577643 Fixed Pipe Clutch Master Cyl Series III/Defender V8 3.41
inc VAT

and the Td5/R380 one which I don't have a current price on (Genuine
only)

Don't know what does what by part number nut clutch systems tended to be
7/16"unf in everything ( even a lot of Jap stuff ) but then suddenly just to
be bloody awkward along came the M12 ones!!!!

A 7/16" tube nut wiggle wiggle into a M12 hole - does that seem to be the
case or is it so much smaller it could be M10 / 3/8"unf?

If I was you I would buy a lovely stainless braid clutch hose from me that
rund straight from the master into the slave cylinder in one go - I could
then supply it with adaptors for both threads into the slave...
Then again I'm biased - so please feel free to buy whatever you want from
whoever you want !!!

Re: Clutch slave cylinder questions (4.0 petrol/R380)

Perfect! I finally found the part, but it's 2 weeks to order it here
in the US.

I ran down to a local place that does engineering for race cars and
they made up the braided steel hose with pretty fittings on either end.
Mind, it was $25 versus the $4 for the Rover bit, but I'll be driving
this weekend instead of two weeks from now!

Thanks for the advice!

Don't moan about 25 dollars for the hose!!! Most of the fittings I sell
come in from the States ( XRP ) and by the time we have paid the duty and
then paid the various profits and taxes along the way that sort of hose
would have cost you nearer 50 dollars over here!!!

Just thank God you live in a country where tha car is catered for in a
sensible market rather than in a country where the car and anyone who drives
one is fair game to rip off !!

Stop your moaning David - emigrate here to NZ if you want outrageous
prices for car parts!
