OT:Rover shocker.

Why in the name of Christ is MY money going to be used to sort out a PRIVATE
business FFS?

I cannot believe this, if my business happened to go the same way, would
this help my workers in the same way??

Truly shocking.

there's an election coming up - politicos will promise the world and
everything in it, tomorrow, provided you re-elect us.

can't believe how many people manage to be fooled by this.

It's hardly a first. UK and European money is routinely pumped into
areas of high unemployment to boost skills and seed new economic
development. I live in a European Objective 1 area which has received
>700 million in recent times for various projects.

Of course, many would argue that lots of the money is spent on
beaureacracy and I wouldn't argue with that. I think lots of it is
also wasted on projects which don't deliver real value, but some of it
does deliver and makes a difference. Lots of new businesses have
sprung up or been supported by these ventures - I'm a director of two
of them!

The alternative is to keep people on the dole, don't train them, don't
give them new opportunities. And to lose lots of votes....

So as we're paying for them, does that mean i can trundle down to the local
dealership and take my car home?

Nope - the money we're paying is largely to pay a weeks wages, so we
should all demand a rover worker comes round and spends some time
working on our vehicles for us (after all, it's not like they're busy
building rover cars now...)

They don't build very good cars to start with, so I wouldn't trust a
production line monkey to do any work on any vehicle of mine.

They could come and do the garden instead.

Better to spend money on cushioning the blow to the poor sods made
unemployed, and help with retraining etc, than to pump unlimited cash into
propping up a failing business that's going nowhere. Labour 1970s vs Labour
2005 - it's an improvement. Slightly.

As others have said, the imminent election is not unconnected with the
Govt's generosity here.

I don't think they are doing very much that wouldn't be done anyway,
they are just making rather more song and dance about it.
