Help,
I have just purchased a 2000 Discovery with no owners handbook!
After discovering how to raise the suspension (by pressing a button) I am
unable to lower it again. What is the procedure? I have tried pushing the
same button, but it just "pings" 3 times and does nothing. Help please!!

It should lower on the second push provided the doors are shut (and
engine running?). Three boings means it ain't happy and ain't going to
do what you asked.

Or drive, if you go over 18mph it'll boing once at you and lower
automagically.

It returns to normal as you drive around 20mph i think,also the 3 bings
signals it returning to normal mode

3 boings? 3 boings is "error" if you press the button with a door
open. 1 boing is "OK, I'm going to raise the suspension", 1 boing is
"OK, I'm going to lower the suspension" on button pushes from the
book.

The book doesn't say how many times it boings when you travel too fast
and it automatically lowers the suspension and I can't remember. I
might have a play tommorow. IMHO 3 should be an "error" indication
rather than a normal "I'm going to lower the suspension" one. I guess
the designers consider going above 18mph with the suspension raised an
"error".

Had this when I first got mine, put it in the garage ready to change the
engine {failed oil pump bolt}.
Played with the buttons in ignorance of what they did, was a new toy after
all.
Suspension starts to raise, flourescant tube starts to crack, jab button to
no effect, so turned off ignition.
Spoke to dealers on the phone, who said it would continue to raise untill it
got to full height.
Only way to get the damned thing out was disconnect the height sensors to
lower it, push it out and reconnect.
