SOUTH AFRICA: Ford begins Land Rover exports to Australia
Ford has joined the list of South African manufacturers exporting fully built up vehicles.
It will send 3,000 Land Rover Freelanders and 216 Defenders to Australia from November this year.
The Freelanders will be both TD4 and V6 models and the Defenders the 110 County station wagon and 130 double cab models.
The company has also been exporting left hand drive Defenders to Angola and by the end of this month will have shipped 1 008 to Luanda.
Land Rover's South African sales and marketing manager Paul Melhuish says the contracts confirm the company is able to manufacture models in South Africa which meet world standards.
Ford SA also exports 1.3- and 1.6-litre RoCam engines to Europe and the Pacific rim.
