Ford cancels title sponsorship.
Ford has decided to cancel its deal to act as title sponsor for the Champ Car World Series.
The deal, which has run for a number of years after Ford became involved with the series back in 1992, had remained in place even after Ford sold its Cosworth engine subsidiary to Champ Car co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven but has now come to an end ahead of the 2007 season as Ford faces up to possible record losses.
"We evaluate all of our racing programs on an annual basis," Dan Davis, director of Ford Racing Technology said, "and have decided that this sponsorship does not align with our current business objectives."
Champ Car president Steve Johnson said the announcement shouldn't tarnish the partnership forced between the series and the car manufacturer over the past 15 years and gave thanks for the continued support shown.
