1950 ford question

I am wanting to add an overdrive transmission to my car. The problem is that the units seem to be only found on the V8 car and I have a six. Will this transmission bolt up to the six without a big problem. Some say the bellhousing is different, can I use the one on the six or is this whole thing impossible?
