EL Fairmont - LPG (who to install in Melb?) & Trip computer questions
I've just bought an EL Fairmont (and love the car!) and need it put on LPG ASAP and have a few questions. I spoke to a few LPG installers and nobody knew what they were talking about or just said sure mate I dont touch the computer of course it will work! - I dont know the electrics of the EL but would like a second opinion - I'm under the impression the trip computer measures the level of fuel in the tank to estimate distance to empty, and uses injector duty cycle or AFM signal to calculate instantaneous consumption -
If an LPG fuel system is installed, does anything need doing to keep the trip computer operating fine, such as hooking a level gauge to it from the LPG fuel level sender in the tank or does it just work somehow?
Secondly, does anyone recommend a company to install it or recommend a company NOT to go to?
Re: EL Fairmont - LPG (who to install in Melb?) & Trip computer questions
It worked with the factory installed Tickford LPG system, so it can be done. just not sure how.
If you're Close to dandenong, you could try Gas Research PC

Cheers
You can do just about anything if you throw enough money at it..
But in practical terms just have the LPG system fitted as a 'stand alone' system with an add-on feedback processor.
It'll cost you a lot less and you'll avoid the gremlins creaping in, as they seem to do if systems get too involved.
There's nothing wrong with GRA equipment but there seems to be a lack of expertise around in setting it up and ongoing maintanence.
Impco equipment is basic, easily understood by many in the industry, performs very well and is totally reliable.

Cool, found a place in bayswater and the guy knew exactly what I was after over the phone, told me how it works, how he does the integration with the factory fuel level gauge on the dashboard etc, impco system and a competitive price, found a few cheaper but I'd rather pay a bit more for someone that is friendly, technical and knowledgeable on the phone and can tell me about the results he's had in the past.
I forget their name though :( I'll post it when I get it from work tomorrow.....

It's your choice, and everyone has a different idea of what's best, but I prefer to have a separate gauge for LPG.
The difference is you see fuel levels in both tanks at a glance without having to switch back to whatever fuel you're not using at the time to check it.
I also find the 8 LED gas gauge (With a red last light on) seems to catch your attention better when the gas level is getting low.
