2007 Ford Edge smokes

We have had our Ford Edge for about 1 year, 12K miles. We have been mostly pretty happy with it, BUT sometimes it smokes. We see it when we stop at a light or in traffic, usually after running on the expressway. Doesn't seem to matter if the heater is on or not. Sometimes it comes in the car. There is an odor, but I can't place it. Has anyone had experience here? It has been to the dealer TWICE, and they can't find it. Today it happened to my wife 2 times, and I am heading to the Ford dealer tomorrow, and scream.

Hmm. I haven't heard of that problem. Keep a close watch on your fluid levels, especially coolant. If the smoke is white and isn't very noticeable when it happens the dealer will probably dismiss it or find an excuse so they don't have to tear it apart. If the engine makes an abnormal noise of any kind, make sure to bring that to the dealers attention. If the smoke is blue, then you have a problem and the dealer should fix it right away before a small problem turns into a major one. If all else fails - go to another dealer, they should be more than happy to do warranty repairs as their dealer will get the money from Ford for the work! Let us know what the dealer says...

Any word yet from the dealer on this issue?

Re: 2007 Ford Edge smokes

hi all - if you haven't gotten the "smell/odors/smoking" fixed by now, more than likely it's is the PTU. My understnading is that it is connected to the transmission (Power Train Unit?). My wife and I have a 2007 Edge with 22k miles and it was doing this to us as well. The dealer knew immediately what the problem was because they have experienced this many times. Ford knows all about it. In fact, they even re-designed it because it was leaking fluid that would burn, hence the odor you are smelling. They replaced it under warranty. Our problem now is leftover residue in the exhaust/vent lines in the car. It stinks to the point that my wife is concerned for her health and wants me to look for new vehicles. It's at the dealer now...

I can't say I blame you for looking around, I'd do the same. I know I wouldn't want any burned off reside inside any of my vehicles. If I did, I'd just reroute some of the exhaust into my interior vent....
