hi all, new to all this but stuck with my motor so thought i'd give it a go!
my 93 4cyl only ever starts the second time.
i turn the key and engine fires up like usual, but then immediately stalls. on turning the key for the second time it fires up and runs fine.
i have tried cleaning the plugs and dist rotor arm but no difference. i did however find one of the plugs covered in oil, if this means the head gasket is gone would that explain the starting problems?
i've thought about electrical problems, compression problems, fuel problems, but run out of ideas, any help or advice would be much appreciated,

Hi Matt.

I just want to check that when you said the plug is covered in oil, are you referring to the plug after you have removed it and this is the electrode inside the engine or are you meaning the external part of the plug where the lead is plugged on.

If external then likely the rocker cover gasket is the problem but if internal then that opens another can of worms.

Does the car blow blue smoke and use much oil?.

hi,
there is just a little oil around the top part of the plug, i have now removed the rocker cover and put some gasket sealant around the plug in question. but still haven't figured out the starting problem.
i'm stumped by it only starting the second time. i can't think of any problems that would prevent it starting the first time yet allow it to run fine on the second turn of the key.
i was hoping there might be another probe enthusiast that may have encountered a similar problem
