classic ford for fuel efficient daily driver?
hey everyone.. im a ford fan, but i also prefer older cars.. however, as we all know gas prices are getting to be pretty bad.. so im trying to find a best of both worlds scenario where i buy a project maverick (or maybe pinto) without a drivetrain, upgrade the suspension for better handling on the roads here, new brakes, new rear end, newer manual transmission, and possibly a 2.0L ford focus engine which gets 36-37mpg on a similar weight vehicle
id consider turbodiesel as well if ford made one, they did use mazdas, mitsubishi, and perkins diesels before... but im not sure a mazda or perkins turbo diesel has suitable aftermarket to work on improvements to the engine
if anyone can suggest a better ford engine that will get me great fuel economy, im open to suggestions, the focus engine is just what comes to mind but unfortunately the focus is front wheel drive and im not sure of any RWD transmissions that would mate to a focus engine...
im not entirely sure ford makes a RWD vehicle anymore
...
anyway... im open to ideas and nothings concrete, im just brain storming different ideas for the most part and am interested in hearing other ideas too
