XF, power please

g'day everyone, my names nathan and i own a 93 xf pano its a 4.1l ohv job with a b/w m51 box (which i recently replace due to stuffed clutch bands).. anyway, ive recently been challenged to a race by a mate who's just got his licence, he owns a 1.6 gemi and as much as i doubt it will be able to budge the pano out, there is talk of fowl play and turbo's on his part, so i was just wondering what you'se though a quick power boost would be.. i was thinking just a lump stick and getting it match ported, ive already got extractors
:D, anyway hope to hear from you'se thanks in advance, nathan

Re: XF, power please

I hope your not thinking of racing on the street.

If it is something simply to beat this car ,and it is a short race such as 1/4 mile ,then I would say putting in a diff ratio to suit drag racing would give you the best chance at getting off the mark quickly. You would need good rubber too.

Just my thoughts for where the best place to put your dollars would be.

Re: XF, power please

lol, na were getting cam's licences and are going to go on some hillclimbs and then go drags... but thanks for your concern
i was also wondering, how hard would it be to transfer it to a manual from an auto... these auto box's have done nothing but give me trouble since i bought the car

Re: XF, power please

If you are looking at more power I suggest the following;

- Holley 350 double barrel
- Redline inlet manifold to suit
- Roller rockers
- Hi flow oil pump
- Iridium spark plugs
- Bosch spark plug leads
- 5 or 4 speed gear box (depends on what you prefer)
- 10W 30 oil ( like magnatec or similar)
- A good oil filter (no cheap $3 oil filter)

this gives you a far amount of power and also allows your engine to breath better.

The answer to your question "how hard is it to convert a auto to manual" is,
It's not real hard I converted mine back in 1/2 a day

to do the conversion you need;

- The gearbox (of coarse)
- Correct Bell housing
- Clutch fork & thrust race
- Clutch Kit (go for heavy duty)
- Flywheel (make sure bolt holes not threaded)
- Gear stick
- Clutch pedal & brackets
- Clutch cable
- Spicket bearing (bit that goes in your crank)
- Wiring harness (these are easy to make)
- Gear box mounts

you may require a tail shaft depending upon the one currently installed in your vehicle. I think that is all you need for your conversion.
