Ford Fiesta ST Confirmed

Quote:
With strong reception to the Fiesta ST concept, Ford will move ahead with plans to bring the sub-compact hot hatch to market the automaker has confirmed.

Speaking at a Ford even at Laguna Seca, Steve Ling, Marketing Manager at Ford told AutoGuide that “The Fiesta is the next to get the [ST] treatment.”

The Fiesta ST was last seen this year at the Geneva Motor Show as a production ready model intent on arriving in Europe. The super-subcompact was not yet confirmed for other regions. These comments indicate that a Fiesta ST (likely a 5-door hatchback rather than a 3-door for Europe shown above) is on its way to North America.

Ling mentioned that the same torque vectoring control system technology in the Focus ST will be at work in the upcoming hot Fiesta. The torque vectoring control system uses a combination of an electronic limited slip differential which uses the brakes to slow the inside wheel in a corner, and a electronic steering system which eliminates torque steer. Ford developed this system and the car’s suspension on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

If the Fiesta ST follows the “One Ford” strategy, expect it to come with Ford’s 1.6-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder, which cranks out some 180-hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful sub-compact on the market.
