I have a 2005 Freestyle and I can't get the key out of the ignition. I put a new tumbler in it and a new ignition switch. The key will not turn all the way back to the #1 position to release the key unless I unplug the ignition switch. If I unplug the ignition switch, the key moves to all postions with no problems. It looks like something is activating the solenoid in the switch when I try to turn the key off. Does anyone have any ideas why it is doing this?
Possible the transmission range selector doesn't think it's all the way in park. I've had the opposite, but similar problem, the range selector didn't think it was all the way in park and wouldn't let it start.
Thanks for the help on this. I figured out what the problem was. My wife's cell phone charger cord had fallen down beind the shifer and would not let it go all the way forward. Pulled the cord out of the way and the problem went away.
