Tailgate Window Motor Problems

So, a little while back the tailgate window failed to go back up. It would go down, but not up. It wasn't the motor, as I could hear it working. So, once I had a moment, I pulled the motor and checked the gears. Upon opening, I found a bunch of small plastic chunks mixed into the grease. I realized these were the remnants of the plastic pieces used to hold the metal gear that drives the regulator in place relative to the plastic gear driven by the worm gear on the motor shaft.

So I cleaned out the plastic chunks and ordered a new gear set. I installed the new gears, and then reinstalled the motor. However, I'm right back to where I was. I hear the motor run, but no window movement. And this time the window doesn't even go down. What could I be missing? I'm nit really sure since visibility around the motor is excruciatingly difficult inside the tailgate.
