Somewhere there's an old Norton's Commando with my handy work on it in the US. A navy buddy a long time ago owned one and cracked the crank case. The internet wasn't in existence, yet and he couldn't find one. He finally bought a slab of aluminum and I milled on out for him. Wasn't the prettiest thing, but it was functional and reasonably polished.

Those were the days when we made , repaired or adapted parts that were unavailable or in short supply rather than get a new part of the shelf . Long gone sadly .

True, now a days, if they can't find ready made parts, they throw them away. We're becoming very disposable.
