Boxing :WBO European lightweight title

Harrison should be in jail not in the ring .

WBO European lightweight champion Liam Walsh is a stepping stone for me - Scott Harrison - Boxing - Eastern Daily Press

Harrison was only released from a Spanish prison in September last year after spending 30 months behind bars for an assault in 2005.
But despite the sentence, Harrison hopes that by appealing, he can continue his comeback in the ring by fighting John Simpson in Glasgow on December 1.
Guilty: Harrison in a Spanish court

He has also set his sights on a Scottish showdown with WBO world champion Ricky Burns.

Lead judge Julian Cruz said: 'Harrison is not a first-time offender and his criminal record reflects a prior assault conviction.

'We’re also taking into account the dangerous nature of this attack, the serious injuries inflicted and the fact one of the accused was a professional boxer with extensive experience in fighting.'

Harrison, from Cambuslang near Glasgow, was warned it could take up to a year before his appeal is settled.

But a Spanish legal source said: 'For the appeal to be successful, Harrison will have to show the other witnesses, or victims, lied. Because there is an appeal, everything will be frozen until the appeal is heard.'

Re: Boxing :WBO European lightweight title

SCOTT HARRISON'S hopes of becoming world champion for a third time were brought to an abrupt end by Liam Walsh at Wembley Arena tonight.
The third fight of the 35-year-old Scot's comeback after six years out of the ring ended with a unanimous points defeat as Walsh took a comfortable 98-92 97-93 97-93 decision.
It was the third defeat of Harrison's 31-fight career and casts doubt over his future in the sport, while unbeaten Walsh registered his 14th victory to retain his lightly regarded WBO European lightweight belt.
A cut appeared above Walsh's right eye in the opening round as Harrison, the two-time former WBO featherweight champion, made a brisk start as he forced his opponent onto the back foot.
But it was southpaw Walsh, from Norfolk, who enjoyed greater success in the early rounds with a right uppercut in the second and a straight left in the third wobbling the advancing Scot.
It was Harrison's turn to stun his opponent in the fourth with a right hook doing the initial damage, although the follow-up shots were less damaging and Walsh recovered quickly.
The next four rounds followed a similar pattern with Harrison stalking 26-year-old Walsh, who was content to box on the back foot.
The ninth turned into a war of attrition as the rivals traded blows in the centre of the ring with Walsh just about edging the exchanges, and the 10th and final round proved to be a disappointment in comparison.
