The old Citroën DS with the hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension was a very innovative vehicle , miles ahead of others of that era and a nightmare to work on .

When it was introduced 57 yrs ago it was a sensation and won numerous international awards .Remember my father drove one for a while . In later years when I had my first drive of one in the workshop I couldn't get used to the brake " pedal "which was a round bulb balloon type on the floor . This shows you ,

Had one in for repair years later and after fixing , my foreman took it out for a road test . He forgot to lock the bonnet down shut and it blew open and up like a sail against the windscreen .The profits for the job went out the window in replacing and painting mangled / kinked bonnet .
