Question stupid mistake

Hey guys have was hoping i could get some advice, done real stupid thing today. Bought new battery for 1990 model EA ford fairmont and bloody reversed the polarity when attaching the terminals. Didn't start it or anything new hair stuffed up when noticed spark and bit of smoke coming from end of accessory wires of terminals. Stopped straight away. When I tried the right way got no engine cranking only clicking when turning the key. Do you think I done more damage than maybe a few fuses. Aint checked yet till tomorrow when I sober up. Any help'd be appreciated. If me dad was alive he wo uld slap me.

Re: stupid mistake

Hey bobby. Its very possible that more has been done but start first by checking all the fuses. Some cars have a fuseable link wire as well so if you still have problems after replacing any blown fuses then it could be the fuseable link. Often the alternator diodes will be damaged from incorrect polarity so that may need replacement if you have charging problems after it gets started.

Goodluck and check back if you have more questions.

Re: stupid mistake

Thanks for the reply lance.
Well looks like it got away with it relatively well
Considering the possible outcomes. Got the engine
Running ok but indicators, hazards not working and
Fuel gauge either. I can't locate any relevant fuse or
Solution to the fuel gauge problem also. Any ideas
On what to do about this lance? The AMP gauge for
The battery is increasing when engine is running so
I think the diodes are ok, although I can't actually dive
Anywhere at moment as I am in the process of getting
A RWC for it as a run about while I get my TD CORTINA
beefed up. I think that is the extent of it but will have
A multi meter 2mra to check more thoroughly. Any ideas
Would be good lance. Thanks mate.
