Charging oroblems

Hi everyone! I am having some problems with my 96 Probe GT 2.5 Automatic.
My car battery was good, but not charging, so we bought a new alternator and installed it. I drove the car, and the RPM's were going up and down from 1 to about 2.5 and the power was acting crazy dimming off and on, and the battery voltage was going normal and then way down to almost nothing. So, I turned around and parked it. The next day, the car wouldn't start at all. We jumped started the car , then unplugged neg cable from battery and car died. So thinking we got a bad alternator, took it back to store. They tested it and said it worked fine. So we brought it back and out it back on the car. We started looking at connections and saw that the connector from the harness that plugs into alternator was bad. So we cut it off, went to junkyard and got another one. We then installed it on the car, and car wouldn't start. Jumped it, drove it and everything seemed fine. Next day car started right up, drove it and it started doing the same things....power going crazy. Parked it and couple hours later tried to start it, but wouldn't hardly turn over. Just made a grinding kinda noise. Must be a short somewhere, but cannot seem to find it. Anyone have any ideas? I am at my wit's end!!
Thanks for any and all help!

Re: Charging oroblems

You should never disconnect a battery terminal when engine running , can cause electrical problems . Load test your battery .

Never, never, never give up.
