Bacically
More revs = more HP
More comp = more HP
etc...etc.....etc...

Rev your 16:1 compression 418 to 8,000, and you will make more power than your 10:1 compression 418 revving to 6,000
I agree to but at a cost even with a mild 408-420 with any sort of roller cam the more the lift and duration the more often ull be replacing valve springs, and lifters at $500-$800 for valve springs and similar dollars for lifters do u really want to be forkin that out every 10,000kms, and the higher it revs again the more strain on your valve train and more costs. The higher the compression the higher octane fuel u have to use with 16.1 avgas wont do, and the fuels that will, will cost u over 3$ closer to $5 a litre (C16) **** that unless you go methanol and as far as i know its not legal for street use, but i guess at the end of the day it depends what you want an all out balltearer of a drag car which youve got at least 3-5k a year to up keep plus fuel or a streetable 600hp engine that runs on pump fuel and still doesnt mind being cruised which you should easily be able to achieve with that size engine.

Re: Honest Power figures

I don't get much of this. You have a pushrod with 2 valves per pot, 408 cu in, about 6500 rpm peak, a cam, an exhaust so you'll be pushing about 0.415kg/sec of air to get 350kW @ peak revs. That presupposes you have a decent sized throttle body (eg 100mm or dual 68mm), intake ports of about 2400mm^2 and exhaust ports of about 2050mm^2, and failry minor pumping losses.

So how do you expect to get 410kW out of an aesthmatic engine, with poor volumetric efficiency, presumably heads designed for low swirl, on pump fuel?

has anyone used these heads before???
The heads you speak of are closer to a Ford SC1 in configuration.
Suiting Drag, Sprint car, circuit boat etc.

Avoid them for your application.

a) i've seen the motor rev to 7600 on the dyno
b) it's a 1000cfm BG carb
c) i would hardly call a 408W with ported 3Vs, Ferrea valves, TFC manifold, BG 1000cfm carb, 630+ thou roller cammed engine as being aesthmatic.

I have seen this engine on the dyno untuned pull 455rwhp on U98. I'm not going to get into a number war, but i think this donk has a bit more mumbo than what you think it has.

PS. i cant wait to tell you guys how mine goes... engine is out of the hottank and hopefully we'll have a fireup within the month :)
