390 Leaving me stranded

My 65 pickup starts and runs great cold but after running for 5-10 minutes will bog then suddenly shut down. I let it sit for an hour and poured gas in the carb and it got me home with no problems. This happens consistently. I have an Edelbrock performer manifold with a 1406 carb and a stock fuel pump. I really appreciate the help from you guys.

Check for spark when it won't start, (not after it cools down). I would guess coil is breaking down when it gets hot. I wouldn't change till you verify. Also condenser or points could be the problem. I wouldn't suspect a mechanical fuel pump to mess up with heat. Does the choke appear to be working correctly?

Re: 390 Leaving me stranded

I didn't think of checking the spark, but I'll check that. I put on a new pertronix electronic distibutor when the points gave me problems a few months ago. I checked the choke and it was open when it died the last time. Another detail I just remembered. The engine turns over really slow when its having the problems. Cranks great when its cold, but real slow after it dies. Could this be related to the coil problem ? Thank you
