F250 7.3 starts, runs, quits, then runs fine all day.

I recently picked up a 96 F250 4x4 with a 7.3 powerstroke, 330K miles.

It starts right up and runs like a champ.
It's a slow drive on the dirt road to the highway (a few miles)

On the way it will just stop.
It's not like it's running short of fuel. It seems more like a sensor is shutting it off.
After it quits, it'll start right back up, then do it again after a mile or so.
After doing this a few times, it'll run fine for the rest of the day with lots of turning off and on, and plenty of miles.

Oil level is fine, tanks are full.
This is my first 7.3

Thanks for any help.

We have a 2000 f350 that did the same thing for a while until it eventually would not start at all.
Turned out it was a sensor inside the crankcase that has to do with the timing and fireing if the engine. When that sensor gets dirty and can not read and report back to the computer. It shuts off the engine as a safety measure. Not sure of the technical terms and names.
Hope you got your truck fixed.
