Ford Introduces its First Plug-in Hybrid for Police and Government Customers
The Ford Special Service Plug-In Hybrid Sedan is the first plug-in hybrid police vehicle from the American automaker.
Earlier this year, Ford introduced the world’s first pursuit-rated hybrid police vehicle and has now followed up with a plug-in hybrid vehicle that is capable of driving up to to 21 miles on electric power alone. Designed for police and fire chiefs, detectives, and other government personnel whose jobs don’t require a pursuit-rated vehicle, the Special Service Plug-In Hybrid Sedan features a 3.3-kilowatt onboard charger, allowing agencies to fully charge the 7.6-kWh battery in just 2.5 hours on a 240-volt, level-two charger. The company is confident most agencies won’t need more than a regular 120-volt wall outlet to recharge.
