Well that must have been a real cheapy; it doesn't even have a continuity setting. Even Jaycar's lowest cost one does Economy CatIII Multimeter with Data Hold | Jaycar Electronics and in my mind it virtually useless without it. However for any serious automotive work you need a DC Clamp meter e.g SCA Clamp Meter - Digital as this will allow you to check for current flow in wires with piecing or disconnecting them which is much safer and more easily traces parasitic battery drain if needed.

      Any of these I suggest:

Micron Compact AC/DC Clamp Meter - Altronics (best as it allows measurement of DC current of less than 4 amps. The others lowest setting is 40A DC which is often too low to detect low current parasitic drain).

1000A True RMS AC/DC Clamp Meter | Jaycar Electronics (the non contact Voltage detection is a handy safety future) if you plan to do any mains wiring work

or even this relative cheap one SCA Clamp Meter - Digital

You need something that in addition to normal multiumeter ranges has a DC low current clamp (some clamp meters are AC only) and continuity (although I would see that as a standard/normal multimeter feature).

Off course Fluke is recognised as the best but you could spend more on a Fluke meter than another car and still destroy it with accidental misuse.

      Ok
      Thanks
      is this the C20

will the one I have test this?
will the super cheap clamp test this? If so, I can go to super cheap now and get one
