  1. 70mm TB

    Windsor Tech
    Cool. Thanks.
  2. 70mm TB

    Windsor Tech
I have an AU1 XR8. What year model mustang should I be comparing to when looking at parts like these TBs, MAFs etc? Is it 1979-93? or 1993-95? Or doesn't it really matter? Just interested to know, because for around AUD$250 delivered, that's a pretty cheap TB, and they have stacks of other...
  3. Drivability with air conditioning

    Windsor Tech
Could be that the bearings in your compressor are shot - I would get it checked out.
  4. XR roller rockers

    Windsor Tech
I have a 185kw AU1 XR8 and swapped the standard rockers for 1.72 roller rockers - I dropped around 0.4sec in 0-100, and the car revs out a lot more freely (no wheezing). For around $500, it is about 1/3 the cost of changing cams (if you have to pay for labour), and IMO it is a worthwhile gain.
  5. Running 302W EFI with no MAF

    Windsor Tech
Coool. Thanks guys. I feel a lot better after driving it to work today. It idled nicely, and actually had power when I put the foot flat. I feel like an idiot having driven the car around for nearly 3 weeks without the MAF though! Live and learn, I guess.
  6. Running 302W EFI with no MAF

    Windsor Tech
Thanks EDXR8 - I asked the dyno guys about my A/F ratio and was told to talk to them after they ran the car they were just setting up for. I ended up forgetting about it, so I never got around to getting a print-out and discussing it with them. I suspect it would have been crap! I'll have...
  7. Running 302W EFI with no MAF

    Windsor Tech
My AU1 XR8 had a stutter for the last 2 or 3 weeks that just seemed to be getting worse (especially today when it was hotter than the last week or so). So I spent some time tonight checking spark plug leads, TPS etc, but it wasn't until I looked at the MAF that I noticed that the plug was not...
  8. XR8 Exhaust system - mods

    Exhaust
Thanks RATMAN - I know your car sounds great. I tow a boat with mine, so don't want it too loud, but the press bent pipe is certainly crap! It came with the car though, and to tell you the truth, I didn't even know until I had a look on the weekend - I had assumed it was 3" all the way...
  9. XR8 Exhaust system - mods

    Exhaust
I have an AU1 XR8 auto with Herrods 4 into 1 Headers into the cats, then twin 2.25" or 2.5" pipes (approx 2 feet long) into a 3 inch collector, then a single 3" pipe (approx 2.5 feet long) to one muffler, then 2.5" or 2.25" press bent pipe (approx 1.5 - 2 feet) into a hotdog then straight out...

  11. Clearance on EDXR8 Bonnet

    Windsor Tech
Give these guys a call: Raceparts Australia in Qld (07-38076870). They will steer you in the right direction. You can also look at the FMS catalogue on line - I'll try and find the link. I got the FMS 1/2" plenum spacer for my AU1 XR8 (M-9486-A52) for around $120 plus postage.
  12. AUI Forte Vs EF Fairmont

    Australian Falcons
I'm pretty sure there would be no warranty on either of these cars. Warranty only has to be provided where the vehicle is under 10 years old AND the km are less than 160,000. I would go the AU. The equipment levels of an AU Forte are about par with an EF Fairmont, with ABS, power windows and...
  13. EFI 302 Windsor Fuel Economy...

    Windsor Tech
I average around 15 l/100km in my auto AU1 XR8. Best I've seen around town is 13.5, worst around 17, but 14 to 15 would be my average. If the missus drives it, she gets around 11.5 to 12 l/100km - about the same as she gets in the I6 wagon. Towing my 1.6 tonne boat to Bateman's bay and back...
  14. LPG Dream System

    LPG Tech
There is an EF XR6 in canberra that is LPG injected - with no other mods other than the injection, it makes close to 150rwkw. A system for an AU1 XR8 is about $3000, conmpared to around $2100 for a standard LPG/dual fuel setup. The difference is basically the cost of the special injectors...
  15. The low down on BA SS operation

    Australian Falcons
Don't know Correct Correct re kick down. Still takes a little time on the upchange though (it's not immediate, unless you are on the rev limiter) The gearbox automatically changes down to second, then first when travelling at less than 40 and coming to a stop/slowing. It then holds that gear...
  16. race 3 *spoiler*

    Ford Racing Across the Globe
Me too. He even had a bit of a smile on his face too. I think perhaps the fact that Russ was stuck on his rear bar for around 20 laps (without hitting him) may have lifted his opinion of Ingall just slightly. It was very sporting of Skaife, I must say. And entirely unexpected.
  17. Will Ambrose help Russ?

    Ford Racing Across the Globe
Well, lucky I put in the "stranger things have happened" bit. It did happen, and it was strange, and it is GREAT! Congrats to Russell for doing everything he needed to do to get this result. In the end Ambrose's help was not required, though I think Ambrose did ask the team as he started...
  18. Allan Moffat HO ED s/c 6

    Australian Falcons
The car on ebay is based in or around Canberra. He has it for sale for $17500, so starting a bid of $15,000 is not unreasonable. It is one of only two made - the guy has all the relevant doco etc, and all numbers match with the factory that produced the car. IIRC, it has also had a full...
  19. Cover on, or off?

    Windsor Tech
The AU1's didn't have a cover. Is that what you mean - you like the "no cover" look?
  20. Cover on, or off?

    Windsor Tech
Yesterday I removed the AU2/3 XR8 cover from my AU1, and today I made a small cover to hide the coil pack. I've attached a couple of pics.
