The old car pops out of 2nd gear under hard acceleration. It's an actual 48K miles car and everything else is in good shape.
Could this be a linkage adjustment?

Pops out as in goes to a different gear or goes to neutral?

It will stay in first and third, but under hard acceleration in 2nd, it will pop out and goes to neutral.

How about if you place it in 2nd? Sorry, should have asked that in the beginning as well.

Not sure I follow you; you mean like starting out in 2nd? I wondered about the synchro, but the mileage is low.

As in shifting to second. Unless I misunderstood, you have 3 gears and an overdrive. Or should I shut up and go back to drinking my beer?

No, you are correct, and I appreciate your interest, it happens when I shift into second and accelerate hard.

Well, it could be a couple of things, but both have the same answer in my book. As the venerable R.S. Logan stated, you're synchros could be getting weak, or, it could be seals. Either way, it might be time for a refresh or rebuild of the transmission. How may miles are on it?

That's fine then , worn 2nd gear synchro is a strong possibility .
