I have a 68 XL with a 390 FE engine being rebuilt.
An Old school guy is rebuilding it and having trouble finding the proper main bearings for it.
He had it finished and back in, sounded GREAT.
He put a gauge in the block to check the oil pressure, when engine was warm and at idle
it only had 30 lbs oil pressure... he wanted closer to 40. He says because of the high performance
parts that were used in the rebuild it requires higher oil pressure to properly lubricate it.
He pulled the engine back out but is having trouble finding main bearing set to tighten up the clearance.
Any suggestions ??
Thank you in advance

Thank you R.S. Logan, I agree on the 30 lbs but I am trusting him and his decisions.
I viewed the link you sent and got some good info. Turns out the oil pump we bought for it was one of them recommended
in the diyford site. I purchased the Melling MEL M57HV which is a high volume pump. we also used a large capacity
oil pan Canton CAN 15-810 7 quart.
That article also backs his claim in order to raise the pressure the clearance of the bearings have to be tightened up.
Just very anxious to get it dynoed and back on the street !!
Thanks Man, Much appreciated !
