This 1988 Ford Mustang ASC McLaren convertible is #997 of 1,806 examples built between 1987 and 1990. It is finished in red over two-tone gray leather upholstery and is powered by a 302ci V8 paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ MSW wheels, a black soft top, tinted taillights, air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and a Sony CD stereo linked to Kenwood speakers. The car spent time in Connecticut and Ohio before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. This Mustang ASC McLaren shows 43k miles and is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, the removed factory stereo, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Ohio title.
Originally an LX coupe finished in black, the car was sent to ASC for conversion into a two-seat convertible with a manually operated black soft top. The exterior was repainted in red, and additional ASC-installed equipment includes a hard convertible boot cover, tinted tail lights, front and rear spoilers, and revised lower body styling. Flaws are visible on various panels and can be viewed up close in the gallery below.
MSW 15″ basketweave wheels with ASC McLaren center caps are mounted with 225/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The bucket seats are upholstered in two-tone gray leather with perforated inserts, and the ASC McLaren embroidery on the driver’s seat is discolored. ASC McLaren models were not equipped with a rear seat, and appointments include cruise control, carpeted floor mats, power windows and locks, a Sony CD stereo, Kenwood speakers, and air conditioning, which is said to have been converted to R134a. The removed factory stereo is included in the sale.
The horn button of the two-spoke steering wheel features a debossed ASC McLaren logo, and instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 43k miles.
The 302ci V8 is equipped with electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. According to the selling dealer, an oil change was performed and the battery and air filter were replaced in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Connecticut and Ohio. Gaps in entries are present between June 1996 and May 2003 as well as between May 2003 and October 2019.
