Hello all, name is JC I’m new here, just looking for some input on a old truck I’m interested in, it’s a1996 f-250 with the 351w has 200,000 miles in it. Any input on what I should be looking for, should I avoid it I’m mechanically inclined so I don’t mind working on stuff, just not familiar with the 351w. Thanks I’m advance.

The 351w is essentially a tall deck 302. It’s a great motor that can take a lot of beating. Check the usual things and look out for knocking on startup and transmission shifting. It should have an E4od transmission, which is based on the c6 but is electronically controlled and has an overdrive gear.

One thing I love about Ford trucks in that there are plenty of parts and they’re not too expensive. And there’s always a high demand for them so they hold their value.

Thanks for the input, they guy swears it’s a C6 but I’ll verify that for sure when I can crawl under it.

Unless it was swapped it’s an E4od. Doesn’t really matter though. I like those trucks, I hope it’s what you’re looking for and is in good shape.
