I was going up a hill, car died, no warning. After checking grounds, fuses, wiring and no response from the Escape, we found a 10 amp fuse blown in the kick panel, we changed it, turned the key, heard the fuel pump, started it and it died, blowing the fuse. The fuse is #7 and the kick panel states "engine", manual states "PATS, Restraint Control Module". We have tried to find a short in the seat belts, and to reset the PATS, but it started, once, so the PATS doesn't make sense. The seat belt light has been on for a long time and I did bang the front driver's side bumper in a ditch the night before going in a driveway. Any suggestions?

You may have a short to ground in your fuel pump.

We discovered that it'sthe Restraint Control Module; It actually smelled burnt. The airbag light is off too.

Glad you found it.
Me too! I hope that this helps someone else. I found the diagram on Pintrest. We got a Chilton book from the library, searched here and I looked through websites on the Internet. Finally, one of the diagrams looked right. Cardiagn.com was the link on Pintrest. :)
