Just bought a 2002 mercury mountaineer and noticed when moving slow in parking lots or driveways that if the wheel is fully turned to one side the vehicle lunges, jolts, and moves very choppy. Anyone know what this could be?

I have the same year Mountaineer. It's the AWD kicking in and out when you're turning. It probably drives great when you're driving straight down the road right? It's very normal and typical for AWD to do this. It's like if you've ever driven a vehicle in 4 wheel drive. They do the same thing as the front axle is gripping the same time the rear axle is. I'm pretty good at mechanics and do all my own wrenching. You have any more questions on your vehicles just ask
