More Oomph: 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8

For 2007, Europeans get a TDV8 that deviates from the standard '07 Range Rover Sport with a much more powerful turbodiesel V8 (thus the name).

GAYDON, England — Land Rover said its updated Range Rover Sport will go on sale in Europe in early November, priced from $67,000 for the 2.7-liter TDV6 model. But the big news, at least for European customers, is the arrival of the new TDV8 model, with 40 percent more power and torque than the six-cylinder variant.

The Range Rover Sport TDV8 made its world debut last week at the Paris auto show and will begin reaching European dealerships in January. Among the standard features: adaptive cruise control, navigation, voice recognition, electronic front seats, adaptive automatic transmission and dual alarm systems.

The TDV8 will be priced from just under $100,000. No word yet on whether Land Rover will bring the turbodiesel models to North America.

For 2007, the U.S.-spec Range Rover Sport comes with a choice of normally aspirated or supercharged gasoline V8s. Prices start at $77,240.

What this means to you: The "baby" Range Rover gets more grunt — but won't make it across the pond just yet.
