Today I had hauling chores to do that called for the Ranger and after I started the engine to warm it up (had been parked for a month) the thing locked the doors, shutting me out.

What's up with that?

I had another key in the house so I was able to get into the truck, but then it locked itself again after I was in the cab and while sitting in the driveway.

So what do I need to look for, or where do I start in terms of identifying the source of the issue?

One more piece of info: the truck has been parked for a month. Will a low battery cause the type of eccentric behavior I described?

Okay. This was a low battery issue.

On a hunch, I put the battery on an Optimate maintainer and brought it up to a full charge (overnight). The door-locking issues stopped.

What tipped me to this was using the truck all day on Saturday. Late in the day the door-lock issue stopped, which led me to try the battery maintainer.

Problem solved.
