I have a 2011 Ford Edge SEL, AWD, about 160k on it. I've started noticing that sometimes and I mean sometimes the brakes will go directly to the floor and go extremely soft. ABS still works if you push hard enough and if you let off the brakes and pump it a bit they will come right back no problem. The only times this has happened is when it was drizzling outside once, and on light snow covered roads twice (wasn't sliding, nothing, just slowing down from highway speed to take a turn onto a side road). Brakes are fine, no lights, problem goes away. But I'd like to try and diagnose so im not constantly on edge (haaa) on if my brakes will work or not, especially with winter coming up.

If it only does it now and then instead of all the time it could be your master cylinder going bad or the vacuum going to the booster is not working properly . Last but not least and you should hope it's not your vacuum booster going bad. I would first start with master cylinder
