Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023 Ford Bronco Wildtrak and 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor models over a steering gear safety issue.
The defect: in affected vehicles, internal damage to the steering gear may require increased steering effort or cause the steering wheel to lock up.
The hazards: a steering wheel that locks up can result in a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Components: steering gear
Affected vehicles: select 2023 Ford Bronco Wiltrak and 2022 Bronco Raptor models produced at the Michigan Assembly plant from August 30th, 2022, to March 1st, 2023.
Number of vehicles affected: 343
The fix: dealers will replace the steering gear, free of charge. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy is performed.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on March 27th, 2023. The Ford reference number for this recall is 23S09.
