Hey people, I am slightly new to this forum... and also seeking advice or handy info.. I could read the entire forum, but unfortunately I don't really have a lot of time..

My Situation is.. My 302 cleveland stop working due to (mechanics $165 conclusion) the timing chain.

I was actually pretty annoyed, 3 hours labour and all he could tell me was... It's your timing chain...

No written reports, no nothing.. just "It's your timing chain"..

Well I have just picked up a 351 (rebuilt 3000 km ago) to put in, which should be dropped in early next week...

As all of are the same, I am not going to be happy with standard power (if it is standard) for more than say...... an hour...

I want more power, I have a 302 and a 351 (Timing gears not chain). What parts do I need to get / can take off the 302 / and what can I modify to make a quick bit of power... Money is not too scarce... Maybe $2000 will have my Mates R33 GTS-T in a bit of a worry...

A part by part / step by step guide would be great... and hopefully soon I can have a picture of my car up here...
(Blue 1977 ZH Fairlane 500, aqua interior)
Oh and anyone know where I can get a window for it? (Driver side electric)
Thanks - Steve

if your going to build up your 351 i'd put in a bit of a bigger cam take the heads off your 302, they should be closed chamber heads, get the heads ported. balance the crank then find a decent intake manifold and carby setup to go with your cam choice.
with your cam choice, choose one that will be right for your application not just the biggest one you can find

leave the 351 std, and put a turbo on it, should be around $2000 if u can do some yourself and use a second hand turbo.

what sort of carby setup would you need to use on a turbo 351?

all ive heard of doing to them is enclosing them in a box to prevent leaking out shafts, and to use a rising rate regulator. that is in a blow through configuration.

the compression on a V8 would be too high for a Turbo...
And there would be a lot of messing around with piping and Reliability...

$2000 wouldn't be enough for a decent Boost controller, Turbo Timer, Intercooler AND good turbo...

well what u do is take the standard factory exhaust and remove it, then replace it but put the left on the right the right on the left so instead of the pipes running down the firewall they run up at the front of the motor and point up at the bonnet. You then attach 1 small turbo to each of these headers and then plumb into a sealed plenum (box) covering your carby as stated before and run the exhaust back under the turbos between the shocker towers and under the firewall.

Thats the basic part of it now setting it up for $2000 just wont happen if you want it to work any good, if it backfires through the carby your turbos will be fooked and your factory cast pistons would melt just nicley if given a hard time, if you did stil want to try this combo i can only suggest gas research throttle bodies less chance of backifiring and more boost without reducing static compression.

Speaking of compresion on your motor is only 9.2 to 1 you could run quite a bit of boost especially on gas with a small intercooler, or even better yet a small air to water cooler pinched of a wrx or liberty rs for example.

make sure the 351 has good rings, bearings, new oilpump etc before you put it in. Spend the rest of the money for a plumb-in nitrous kit if beating the skyline is so important.
