You need an engine, trans, new radiator, engine mounts and all the other little bits and pieces such as hoses fuel pump etc, etc.
I did the swap in my XF and it cost me $1300 for all the parts to swap it over from a six. It cost me $1200 to get it all fitted including a new set of extractors attached to my old exhaust.
Do you live in melbourne? I bought all the gear from just falcons on canterbury road, if something was missing i could go back and they would give it to me free, They are good blokes. They will do the fitting as well for around $600, I went somewhere else for the fitting and that was a bad a idea.

No im in newcastle unfortunately. Was the $1300 for the engine aswell as parts, that doesn't sound too bad, so to put in the 351 without extractors or any mods i'd be looking at around 2k? My main query would be can i buy a brand new chev engine to put in?
Any suggestions on where i can read up on this stuff, on the net?

I already had heavy duty lowered springs so I didnt have to change them, Probably have to if they are stock 6 springs.
You can still buy reco engines you might find a new one in something like parts peddler magazine. A new one would blow that $2000 to hell though.
Mine was second hand with a 3 month warranty on all parts.
The engine was $600, trans $300 miscellaneous parts were $300 and they threw in the reco 3 core rad for $100.
Not really sure where you could read up on it. Maybe look through my old posts if you do a search. If you can find a ford wrecker in your area they would know all you need to know. Its fairly straight forward as the XE came with an 8 from the factory.

I'll be swapping the 6 in my XB for an 351 in a few weeks. I be doing the work myself to save money. If your handy with tools and mechanically minded you could do it yourself.

Remember to the emissions requirements needed to pass rego. I pretty sure that you'll need to make sure that all the EGR equipment that was available with the 351c XE's is in your car so you can pass the Blue Slip or whatever it is in your state. And I don't think that you can put earlier model blocks into your car. You have to get a black 351c, but someone here will let you know.

I live in Newie, and I'm also putting a 302 into an XE that came with a 6. I bought an XD wagon that was complete but not running for $500 from the Hunter Falcon Centre on Griffith Rd. There are other numerous wrecker around though. I bought my first 302 from Warners Bay wreckers on Hillsborough Rd, but it turned out to be a dud, with used gear it's always a gamble, they had just bought it and never used it. Your best bet would be a complete XD-XE or ZJ-ZK wreck, as they have it all, plus tons of other spares.
i did this swap back in 85 with my 3.3 alloy head converted to what was essentially a 3514v cjet motor and a close ratio toploader.apart from the obvious you will have to modify your pedal box depending on the trans you choose.if you choose a c4 then you will have to lose the clutch pedal and fit a auto type brake pedal and maybe even a new pin.manuals require even more work as you will have to ditch the cable arrangement and convert it to hydraulic which again requires pedal mods (cable is pull type ,hydraulic is push)and fit the firewall with a clutch cyl and associates lines down to slave cyl etc.prolly cheaper just to sell yours and buy one fitted with a351 less hassle i,d say.
If going from manual to auto, the pedals can stay, I still have my clutch pedal tucked under the carpet, the brake is still small but not an inconvenience.

Definately look at selling and buying another car with a 351 as it would be less hassle and possibly not any more expensive, findind a good quality example of a 351 XE is tricky though, I looked for ages before dropping the engine into my XF.

If your going to swap an engine accross that doesn't have all the EGR gear on it you might be able to get away with only running straight LPG.
I'm not 100% sure on other states but in the nanny state (Vic) we can have a 351 in an XE with no pollution gear at all if its straight gas!

but the other problem is yours is cable, v8 bell housing is hydolic so you have to swap pedal boxes or pedal and the pivot point to fit the v8
when i did mine years ago cost me $450 just for the bell housing, flywheel, clutch,pressure plate,master cyl,slave etc.
sometime its easyer to buy a compete car i bought a zh years ago for $500 with a recond engine any then you have everything to swap over should be able to do it in a week end if you invite some freinds around to help just take your time and hopefully you might complete it.
Your 5 speed is the same as the 5 speed in a sigma and 202 VK commodores and such, the ones behind the 3.3 are weaker than the 4 speed single rail. I had the 4 speed and was told that one healthy burnout would kill it. Thats why I opted for the auto. Believe it or not but I found if you have a bit of power to play with you wont miss the manual, I dont.
was that a reco 351 in the zh for 500 bux it doesn't sound as expensive as i first thought.
say i bought a zh, to swap the pedal box to the xe would this be simple when your swapping over?
deffinately buying a whole zh would be the way to go, bugger paying $450 on the transmission when i could pay 500 for everything!!
one other thing, if i swap the whole rear axle from the zh how do i go about hooking up the disc brakes from the drums? would i need to swap the whole brake systems or just the line's from the existing xe brake to the rear discs?

Yea i can beleive that DansEdgli, dad's new fairmont is an auto but it's still a heap of fun. Would you say i gave they 5 speed a go and if it blew change it?
I don't think i'd drop the clutch anyway's, i couldn't afford the tyres, not just yet anyway.
