im new to cars in relative terms so i was wondering if anyone could help me with my choice of parts.
i have a 302 cleveland that i am converting to 351 and want to make a beast of it, firstly im drawn towards new heads, the 3V CHI ones look awesome but what else will i have to upgrade at the same time and what parts does one reccommend to upgrade to?
eg, new heads will need new carby which will need new fuel pump. more power means bigger diff and stronger clutch right? anything like that would be appreciated.
prices would also be useful as i need to plan my budget!

What do you have now? An unbuilt 351?

A 351 with zero deck height, camwise something similar to F238, 185cc heads CHI manifold, 4-1 extractors and you'll make 500-550hp. If you have a manual? No problems provided it's not a single rail. If auto? You need a 3500rpm ish stall convertor. Rearend wise? 3.5's with a manual or 3.7's with an auto. 3.7's will work with the manual also. Carb wise? Go a 750dp 4779 or a HP model.

Cyl head prices are all on CHI's website. 3500rpm convertors range from $200 secondhand -> $1000 brand new. If you have a nine inch diff? The ratio change/reco will cost $700 ($500 in parts and $200 labour). Carb? $400 secondhand and upwards for new.

brenx, don't delude the guy. An F238 will never, ever make close to 550hp. I would say 400-440 max. Ask John at CHI and see what he recons.

I said 500-550hp not just 550hp. If it didn't make more than 450hp with alloys I'd cut the heads up with an angle grinder and fit 2V cast iron heads. It'll make over 450hp

Do not underestimate a f238 cam as i can tell you even in a big heavy fairlane this cam can make very good torque and power in a heavy car, I went for a test drive in a friends zd and without headrests on seats this car can realy give you a neck prob, has run 12.85 at 103 mph and clevo has 2v heads, boss rockers, dualplane manifold and a 780 vac sec on a stock crank rod and kb piston bottom end a c4 with 3200 converter and 3.7 nine inch and all quite tractable.

im not sure if i have a nine inch diff... is it likely on an XY?? yeah its a toploader so i should be fine there right? but is it worth upgrading my clutch? and would it be better to run a hydraulic cam?

Upgrade the clutch if you have issues? Easiest way to tell if you have a borg warner diff is it's back plate unbolts. On a 9 inch the centre removes from the front.
